There are eight Pearl White species in Australia three of which which may be sighted on the Dorrigo Plateau. These three all closely resemble each other and care needs to be taken to correctly identify them with their very similar markings. The two other similar species of Pearl White which may be sighted here are Elodina padusa (Narrow-winged Pearl-white) and Elodina angulipennis (Southern Pearl-white). Elodina padusa (Narrow-winged Pearl-white) has a single faint black spot on the underside of its hindwings which will assist ID of this species.
Migration. Oct 2022 - a large end of October migration of Caper Whites has seen a number of Small Grass Yellows and Striated Pearl-whites included in the large flights of butterflies visiting the garden.
