Shouldered Brown Heteronympha penelope Wingspan: 54 mm - 56 mm
Sighted: March to May
Larval Food Plants: Austrodanthonia pencillata, A.pilosa (Wallaby Grass), also Poa and Themeda (native grasses)
During its restricted flying time this beautiful butterfly is quite common here. We see them at any time of the day. They are easiest to see when disturbed from a perch and you see the bright orange of their uppersides. However, it is difficult in the field to distinguish between some of the Browns.
